Valle d'Aosta

Verano's Recipe of the Day

Valle d'Aosta, a northwestern Italian region, is bordered on the north by Switzerland and on the west by France.  The Province of Aosta was formed from a part of the Province of Turin (Piemonte Region) in 1927, part of which became the region of Valle d'Aosta in 1945.  The balance of the southern region was returned to the Province of Turin at that time.

The provincial and regional capital of the Valle d'Aosta is the town of Aosta, which is located on the Dora Baltea River.  The river valleys and tributaries of the Dora Baltea Region flow throughout this region.  Valle d'Aosta is also bordered by beautiful and breathtaking mountain views.  Three of the most visited mountains are the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and Mont Blanc, which are part of the Alps.

Tourists can travel to France and Switzerland, through the valleys and mountain passes of the region.  Two of these travel routes are the Little Saint Bernard Pass and Great Saint Bernard Pass; the junction of these are near the capital city of Aosta.  Tunnels to these countries have also been tunneled through the mountains.  The close association of these countries to this region have resulted in a population which speaks both French and Italian.
