Vicenza, a northern Italian city, is the capital of the Province of Vicenza.  The city is located at the confluence at the junction of the Bacchiglione and Retrone Rivers.  The city was ruled by Venice from 1404 to 1797 and then Austria, until 1866.  At this time it became part of the kingdom of Italy.  The Province of Vicenza is in Veneto Region.  Vicenza also has many sites of interest to tourists.  The town is noted for its churches, palaces, and other buildings.  These structures were designed by the architect Andrea Palladio.  In addition, the wall that was built to protect the town, in the 13th century, is still standing.
