Aosta, a northwestern Italian city and capital of the Province of Aosta and the Valle d'Aosta Region, is located on the Dora Baltea River.  It was developed as a Roman military outpost by Emperor Augustus of Rome.  The city is also located near the junction of the transalpine Great and Little Saint Bernard passes.  Aosta is known for its interest as a tourist location.  The city provides year-round activities for tourists.  Of interest to tourists are the many Roman ruins, some dating from the 1st century AD.

Iron and steel, chemicals, and textiles.
